InSite: 20th century conflicts for 21st century learning

InSite is an inspiring and all-expenses-paid immersive learning programme for teachers, museum educators and education professionals.

Applications for the 2009 InSite programme have now closed.

The InSite Immersive Learning Programme 2009 is a unique continuing professional development opportunity aimed at teachers, museum educators and other education professionals who want to increase their knowledge of twentieth century conflict and commemoration, and their confidence in teaching and learning outside the classroom.

InSite includes:

All expenses paid trips to Germany and the Czech Republic(18-25 July 2009) and Hungary (17-20 September 2009).
Preparatory and follow-up visits to branches of the Imperial War Museum (6-7 June 2009 and 17-18 October 2009)
The opportunity to network with other educational professionals from a variety of backgrounds.
Workshop sessions with Museum staff.
Question and answer sessions with eyewitnesses.
The opportunity to produce an innovative learning project linked to your own profession.

The InSite Programme aims to:

Build confidence for teachers in leading successful, focussed and outcome led educational trips using museums, historic sites and their collections.
Increase subject knowledge of the impact of conflict in the twentieth century with particular emphasis on post-1945 events and the Cold War.
Build awareness of the issues inherent in teaching controversial and sensitive subjects and confidence in the delivery of these subjects.
Provide training in risk assessment, health and safety, itinerary planning and other practical issues arising from leading educational trips.
Increase motivation for leading educational trips.
Train people to act as advocates for learning outside the classroom within their own area.
Facilitate mutual learning exchanges between teachers and other educators, particularly those working in museums, libraries and archives.
