Nuremberg former Nazi Congress HallIn 1933, Nuremberg was officially chosen as the city for the annual Nazi Party Rallies, the Reichsparteitag, which were attended by hundreds of thousands of people. In 1934, Albert Speer was asked to draw up an overall plan for enormous buildings suitable for these events. The Congress Hall, designed by Ludwig and Franz Ruff to be a building where 50,000 people could assemble, is part of the Nazi Party Rally Grounds. The Congress Hall was never finished, but it is the largest remaining vast National Socialist building in Germany. Since 1973 the Congress Hall has been a listed building. The group had a tour of the Grounds, learning more about the rallies, the architecture and the use of the grounds today. |
