House of the Wannsee Conference

On 20 January 1942, a meeting of 15 SS officers, Nazi Party officials and senior civil servants took place in the dining room of this villa in western Berlin. The meeting has become known as the Wannsee Conference and was concerned with the ‘Final Solution’, the planned murder of all Jews in Europe (11 million in total). The villa was opened as a memorial site in 1992 for the 50th anniversary of the Wannsee Conference and contains an exhibition on the Holocaust and the place of the Wannsee Conference in deciding the fate of European Jews. The education centre at the villa is very active and the students were able to look through material that is used in their study sessions.
